About QRide Training & Licensing
Q-RIDE training and assessment will provide you with demonstrated skills and knowledge in motorcycle control, observation, road rules and road craft awareness as outlined by Queensland Transport with competencys in motorcycle licence classes RE, or R or refresher and upgrade courses for current licence holders.
Q-RIDE competencys were introduced by Queensland Transport in 2001 and has been authorized under amendments to the Transport Operations Regulation 1995. Q-RIDE training and assessment is based on competency standards as outlined by Queensland Transport. You will be trained and assessed in accordance with the documented training program and document assessment process for Q-RIDE training and assessment as approved by Queensland Transport.
Q-RIDE competency standards help to ensure that every learner receives the same level of assessment. The focus of this being on the development of skills necessary to safely ride a motorbike and the attainment of a positive attitude toward using these skills while riding. The system ensures that the learner rider continues their training until they have attained each of the competency standards. This is fairer for the learner and safer for every road user, since the same level of competence must be reached by each learner undertaking Q-RIDE training.
The advantage of undertaking Q-Ride training is that you will be eligible to apply for a class RE provisional or open licence as soon as you have been given a Q-Ride Certificate, unlike the 6 month period you will be required to wait if you undertake a Q-Safe practical riding test. As big an incentive as this is, it is not the predominant one. The biggest advantage is that you will actually be trained and acquire skills to assist you in safe and enjoyable riding, and not just put through the paces to pass a test.
