How do I obtain my Learners Permit?
The first step in gaining your drivers licence is to obtain a learner licence for that class of vehicle.
You can do this at your nearest Queensland Transport Customer Service Centre, authorised Queensland Government Agency Program or a police station that issues driver licences.
To apply for a learner licence you must be at least 16 years of age.
Once you have your learner licence and you are learning to drive, you must;
¬ clearly display L-plates at the front and rear of the vehicle
¬ be accompanied by a person who holds and has held an open licence for the class of vehicle you are learning in (for example, automatic or manual), for at least one year
¬ carry your learner licence with you and show it to a police officer when asked to do so
¬ have a zero (0.00 per cent) blood or breath alcohol limit if you are under 25 years and a blood or breath alcohol limit below 0.05 per cent if you are 25 years or over
¬ not use a mobile phone. Passengers and supervisors are also restricted from using a mobile phone in loudspeaker mode while the car is being driven
Befoe you are eligible to take a practical driving test you must have held your learner licence for a least one year and have completed and recorded 100 hours of supervised on-road driving experience (for drivers under 25 years) in your learner logbook. This must include 10 hours of night driving.

When will I be ready to go for the Practical Test?
Once you have completed all of the necessary requirements, your driving instructor will consult with you as to how you feel, whether you feel comfortable and ready to sit the test. They can prepare for you a mock practical test, providing essential feedback and training along the way, and upon completion of this lesson, give you their opinion as to whether they believe you are ready.

How do I book my test?
You can book your test at any Queensland Transport Customer Service Centre. You will need to pay a test booking fee, currently $43.65. You will also need to arrange a test vehicle as Queensland Transport do not provide one. You can use your own vehicle or use a driving schools vehicle. Make sure you book the vehicle early as vehicles can be booked out weeks in advance.
We can help you to book your test if required.
back to topYour driving instructor will collect you from your requested pick up point an hour prior to your scheduled test. This hour lesson will be spent revising driving skills and particularly those that will be required during the Q Safe test. You will then arrive at the Test Centre.
