To be eligible to get a class RE learner licence, you must have held a P type, P1 type, P2 type or an open licence of another class for at least 1 year.

You will then need to visit your nearest Department of Transport and Main Roads Customer Service Centre, authorised Queensland Government Agency Program office or licence issuing police station and apply for a class RE learner licence.  This will require you to pass a written test.  You can practice that test here.  Once you have your RE learners permit, there is no waiting period, you can proceed straight through to undertaking your Qride competency based assessment.

As QRide is a competency based course, how long you take to complete the course is dependent upon how you move through the set criteria.  The QRide course consists of the following units:

 .    Prepare motorbike for operation

.     Manoeuvre Motorbike at Low Speed

 .    Control Motorbike at Road Speeds

 .    Apply Roadcraft Training

QRide Training Packages

Training Package A:	This is a course designed for a novice rider with little or no previous riding experience. It is a 13 hour one on one training and assessment course. This course is conducted in 4 x 2 hour blocks and a final 5 hour course.
Training Package B:	This is a course designed for riders with some riding experience. It is a 7 hour one on one training and assessment course.
Training Package C:	This is a course designed for riders returning to riding. It is a 6 hour training and assessment course.
Training Package D:	This is a course designed for experienced riders, and riders upgrading from an RE to an R licence. To progress to an R type licence, you must have held your RE for 12 months. It is a 5 hour training and assessment course Additional hours may be needed to achieve competency.

QRide Course Costs

Training Package A:	$650 (GST included), if the learner has their own motorcycle.  $780 (GST included) if the learner requires the use of the schools' motorcycle.  This is paid at each 2 hour block at $120 per block and $300 at the final 5 hour.
Training Package B:	$350 (GST included) if the learner has their own motorcycle. $420 (GST included) if the learner requires the use of the schools' motorcycle
Training Package C:	$300 (GST included) if the learner has their own motorcycle $360 (GST included) if the learner requires the use of the schools motorcycle .
Training Package D:	$250 (GST included) if the learner has their own motorcycle $300 (GST included) if the learner requires the use of the schools motorcycle.
Additional Hours:	$50 per hour if the learner has their own motorcycle. $60 per hour if the learner requires the use of the schools' motorcycle.
